Description Necrotizing pneumonia caused by Staphylococcus aureus producing Pantone-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a rare but life-threatening disease. Early diagnosis of staphylococcal etiology is necessary for successful treatment. Linezolid is the first choice antibiotic that should be preferred to beta-lactams and vancomycin in this indication. We report a case of 29 year old man who was admitted for severe septic shock and incipient pneumonia and died 8 hours after admission despite intensive care. Staphylococcus aureus izolated from blood cultures produced PVL.
