Description Using the capacitively-coupled radio-frequency discharge we deposited transparent films obtained from mixtures of hexamethyldisiloxane with nitrogen and hexamethyldisilazane with nitrogen and/or hydrogen on a polycarbonate substrate. Varying the discharge parameters and the deposition mixtures we constructed multifunctional coatings. The obtained coatings were analyzed by depth sensing indentation method, contact angle measurements and surface energy calculation and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) for the mechanical properties (like hardness, fracture toughness, adhesion, internal stress, abrasion resistance); and by ellipsometry and photospectroscopy for the optical properties (like thickness, color, refractive index, ellipsometric coefficient). Also plasma diagnostic was performed by means of optical emission spectroscopy (OES). The films behavior covers a wide range of material properties from polymer-like to inorganic coatings. The multilayered polymer coatings obtained at different concentration are hard, transparent and have a high resistance to outdoor weathering and UV exposure, therefore are suitable for covering for example the headlights in the automobile industry or house windows.
