Description Physiological autooxidation of homocysteine (Hcy) generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) which participate in 30-80% cases of mens infertility. Besides the beneficial effects of ROS, such as activation of spermatozoa during fertilization or stimulation of acrosome reaction, ROS directly damage the sperm DNA. The aim of this study was to find out if the increased concentrations of homocysteine in ejaculate affect the DNA integrity in sperms. Conclusion: Homocysteine added to the ejaculate slightly increased the level of basal DNA damage.
