Popis When searching the literature, there is different information about uptake and elimination kinetics of POPs to earthworms. Several studies showed that 10 days are sufficient to reach equilibrium concentration in earthworms while new OECD guideline recommends 21 days. It is highly probable, that this time will be dependent on soils and chemicals measured. Specific aims of this study were: i) To determine time which is needed to reach equilibrium POPs concentration in earthworms Eisenia fetida; ii) To investigate how uptake and elimination kinetics differ between different POPs and different soils. As a first step we performed bioaccumulation test in artificial soil prepared according to OECD guideline, two natural soils which represent typical soils in Czech Republic were examined afterwards. The soils were spiked with phenanthrene, pyrene, p,p'-DDT, lindane and PCB153 which were used as models of non-chlorinated and chlorinated POPs. Four days after spiking earthworms were added to the soils in sufficient number of parallels to enable finish the exposure at defined times (0.5; 1, 2, 4, 8, and 14 days), followed with earthworms analyses for POPs content. After 14 days earthworms were transfer to clean soils to enable the elimination at the same defined times. According to results it is clear that: i) Non-chlorinated compounds indicate different kinetics than chlorinated compounds, ii) Ten day exposure are not sufficient for some chlorinated compounds to reach equilibrium concentration in earthworms, iii) Twenty one day exposure might be too long for some compounds due to their degradation.
