Popis | Temperate bacteriophages are important mediators of horizontal gene transfer of various virulence factors such as Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) associated with community-acquired S. aureus strains. By spreading genes for PVL, the phages participate on the evolution of pathogenic bacteria. The goal of the study was to characterize the PVL phages occurring in Czech community-acquired MSSA and MRSA strains. According to the multiplex PCRs profiles we described four distinct groups between Czech PVL phages. One group is similar to phiSa2usa phage; two are relative to currently sequenced PVL-phages and the fourth represents new variants of PVL phages. Based on MALDI-MS profiles we observed different impact of phages on lysogenized strains. The results indicate parallel evolution of PVL phages and their horizontal transfer between various S. aureus clones. Further investigation will be performed to assed the impact of PVL phages in detail. |
