Kids were chasing hackers at the science and technology fair

Last weekend, the Science and Technology Fair took place at the Brno Exhibition Center. More than four dozen science and technology educational organizations, academic institutes, universities and private companies presented themselves to schools and families with children. The Cybersecurity Team of Masaryk University (CSIRT-MU) was also present at the event. Our team prepared an escape game and an interactive quiz for the visitors, during which children and their parents could playfully review the principles of safe behaviour on social media.

New Era of Czech Science: The EOSC Initiative Is Entering a Hot Phase in the Czech Republic 

The international EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) initiative is expanding to the Czech Republic. It will connect existing scientific communities and create a system for storing and sharing data. Moreover, it will facilitate the research data access for scientists and scientific organizations. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic has just approved funding for the "IPs EOSC-CZ" project in Czechia. And it has officially launched its active phase on Monday, 4 September 2023.

As part of the Cesnet Development Fund project entitled "Asset Management - Online record keeping and complete asset management of the university's IT infrastructure", the ICS MUNI team focused on creating comprehensive support for the record keeping and management of network, hardware and software assets within the extensive ICT infrastructure of Masaryk University.

Project team from ICS MUNI mapped user requirements of the Security Dashboard platform

The outputs of the project include a methodology according to which a user survey was conducted among members of the IT community at Masaryk University. In addition, the project team developed a list of required features, a library of visual components and a set of interactive prototype screens of the Security Dashboard user interface.

Experts from Masaryk University are Developing an Environment to Protect Sensitive Data

IT experts from Masaryk University's Institute of Computer Science have tested how well they can defend against cyber-attacks. Using a cyber-attack simulation, they have checked the security of highly protected information, so-called sensitive data, in a unique environment known as SensitiveCloud. The results of the latest testing will help improve the security of this environment for storing and processing sensitive data and advance cybersecurity research.

We Have Created a Data Lake for Storing Operational Data of Masaryk University

The team headed by Jindřich Zechmeister managed to create a functional Data Lake, which is used to store operational records (logs) for IT service administrators at Masaryk University. Thanks to a successful project, they do not have to deal with their own storage and significantly save time and resource capacity.

Couple Šárka and Jaromír Ocelka: A Quarter of a Century Together not only at ICS

For over 25 years, they have shared not only their work, but also their family life together. This year, Šárka and Jaromír Ocelka are celebrating both a personal jubilee and a common quarter century at the institute. In an age of frequent employee fluctuation, especially in the IT industry, this is uncommon and rare. Their example shows that it is possible to combine family life with a career, and that creating an ideal environment for employees does not have to be so difficult.

Improving Sample and Data Documentation Through Standardization in Biotechnology

We were devoted to the success of our research-oriented staff in the field of provenance information in the previous article. Recently, they managed to follow it up with the publication of the ISO standard, in which their work outputs are applied, and with an article describing the standard in the Learning Health Systems journal.
