Masaryk University Will Strengthen the Capacities of the Security Operations Centres in Central and Eastern Europe

The Institute of Computer Science of Masaryk University (ICS MUNI) started the implementation of a new project co-funded by the EU Programme Digital Europe to improve cybersecurity capacities in European academia. The three-year project with the acronym SOCCER is coordinated by AGH University based in Poland. It connects nine partners from five countries in Central and Eastern Europe, including ICS MUNI. The project focuses on developing Security Operations Centres (SOC) capabilities to provide safer cyberspace for university students and employees.

Czech Software LikPik Helps Police Investigators Detect Criminals

Software developers from Tomas Rebok's research team at the Institute of Computer Science at Masaryk University have developed a new software tool. The new tool is called LikPik and facilitates the work of the Police of the Czech Republic and helps to maintain public order and security. The new tool speeds up the daily work of police officers in detecting and proving criminal acts. The tool can process and search large amounts of digital data effectively. The tool helps search for specific information in large datasets, saving officers hours or days of analytical work.

The European Commission Recognized the Fulfillment of Our HR Award Action Plan

Two years after receiving the HR Excellence in Research Award (HR Award), we have successfully passed the European Commission's assessment of our Action plan. The commissioners rated our implementation as reliable, systematic and in line with the set goals. Among other things, it is a confirmation of our efforts and commitment to continuous improvement and support of our employees.

First Year of The Cyber Valkyries Conference Is Approaching

On Thursday, October 26, the participants of the first year of the Cyber Valkyries conference will be able to convince themselves that they do not necessarily need to be able to program to enter cyber security. The event, aimed at supporting the employment of women in cyber security not only in IT positions, will take place at the Edison Filmhub in Prague and will feature a total of seven speakers from the commercial and public spheres, including our colleague Natalia Peterková from the CSIRT-MU team. Admission to the conference is free.

This Year's Open Science Week at MU Will Focus on Predatory Journals

Our Open Science team is preparing two separate events to participate in the international Open Science Week campaign. This year's theme is so-called predatory magazines. On Monday, October 23, there will be a lecture on the topic "How (not) to recognize a quality mathematical journal?", on Tuesday, October 24, Emanuel Kulczycki will shed light on the issue with a lecture entitled "Opening the Black Box of Predatory Publishing".

During the EOSC Symposium 2023 in September, representatives from the Czech Republic actively engaged in discussions concerning the initiative's future steps, priorities, and strategic direction. The event was held under the auspices of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Terézia Slanináková: I Use Theoretical Knowledge to Solve Practical Problems

We talked about recent successes and other topics with Terézia Slanináková, Ph.D. student and researcher from Tom Rebok's team.
