Synthesis of new bifunctional chelators derived from azacycles with acetic and methylphosphonic/phosphinic acid pendants, study of their coordination ability toward transition metals and lanthanoids and comparison of the coordination ability between free chelator and the chelator bonded to the simple biomolecule should be main part of the project. Thermodynamic (stability constants, isomerism) as well as kinetic (formation and dissociation rates of complexes, water exchange rate etc.) properties of the complexes will be investigated on the parent compounds of the bifunctional ligands to learn more about structure/properties relations caused by introduction of phosphorus acid group.
