One important task many vocational upper-secondary school graduates have to cope with is the school-to-work transition. Rather than a one-off event, the transition from school to the labour market is currently a long-term process with unclear boundaries which involves a number of potentially difficult aspects. To assess individuals’ readiness to cope with the school-to-work transition, researchers have designed a multidimensional construct of career adaptability. Therefore, the grant research proposal focuses on a longitudinal study of career adaptability in vocational upper-secondary school graduates during this transition period. The research will explore, among other things, how graduates’ career adaptability changes during the school-to-work transition; what demographic, relational, school-related, and personality variables affect the level of career adaptability; and whether the level of career adaptability has a protective effect on the transition. The main findings will be published in 7 peer-reviewed journals and in the collective monograph.
