Description | Regular physical activity (PA) is essential for human health. Extensive research shows that exercise induces significant physiological and psychological benefits while reducing the risks of various diseases. Major organizations such as the AHA, ACSM, CDC, NIH, and WHO emphasize the health advantages of an active lifestyle and warn against the dangers of sedentary behavior. Physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death globally. Studies indicate that exercising at least three times a week can lower mortality risk by up to 30%. WHO estimates that combining regular exercise, a healthy diet, and the elimination of harmful habits could prevent many cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and cancers. While basic PA guidelines recommend 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise five days a week for healthy individuals, those with health challenges require personalized exercise prescriptions. It is also important to be aware of potential contraindications, as inadequate activity leads to negative bodily changes. With 29% of the Czech population insufficiently active, the substantial benefits of PA highlight its role as both a preventive measure and a non-pharmacological therapy for numerous risk factors. |
