Description Flowering is controlled by environmental conditions and developmental regulation. The complexity of this regulation is created by an intricate network of signaling pathways. Studies in Arabidopsis have led to the indentification of components within individual signaling pathways that affect flowering, and to their position within molecular hierarchies. Futhermore, distinct signaling pathways are known to converge on the activation of the same flowering-time genes. Understanding how these pathways are integrated is a prerequisite for understanding why similar environmental or endogenous cues elicit opposit flowering responses in different plants. In this paper we summarize the current progress made in the analysis of the complex multigenic control of flowering in Arabidopsis.
